Third Set -- PHOTONS AND QUANTUM EFFECTS

 Experiment 10 -- The Photon

 

- Per experiment #9 and the other preceding experiments, the entire set of effects resulting from velocity changes of an electric charge are propagated outward spherically, smoothly and continuously in all directions from that charge.

 

- The exact nature and magnitude of those effects varies according to the direction of each ray of medium flow away from the charge, whether forward or rearward or in between, but is cylindrically symmetrical around the instantaneous direction of motion of the charge.

 

 Therefore, it is impossible for the effect to be solely in one single direction, even momentarily.

 Therefore, the photon, conceived of as a particle-like effect in one single direction, is impossible.

 Experiment 11 -- Quantized Actions

 

- Planck's theoretical analysis of black body radiation and the Rayleigh-Jeans measured black body radiation data taken together show that energy transfers from electric charges to electro-magnetic propagation are "quantized"; they take place in energy increments as  W = h∙f,  where  W  is the energy,  f is the frequency, and  h  is Planck's constant.

 

- Einstein's analysis of and hypothesis for the photo-electric effect, developed using Planck's results, correspondingly considers that energy transfers in the opposite direction, that is transfers from electro-magnetic propagation to electric charges, similarly take place in "quanta" that are of amount  W = h∙f.

 

- Bohr's analysis of and hypothesis for Hydrogen atom emission and absorption spectra confirm both of the above results:  energy exchanges between electric charges and electro-magnetic propagation take place only in distinct "quanta" of energy  W = h∙f.

 

 How can the requirements for such quantized energy exchanges be reconciled with the impossibility of the "particle-like effect in one single direction" photon, which is contended to be the electro-magnetic form of the energy  W = h∙f  carrying it from one charge to another distant charge ?  The reconciliation is as follows.

 Planck's, Einstein's and Bohr's analyses deal concretely only with the energy exchanges not with its travel from one location of exchange to another.  All three scientists simply assumed that "naturally" the transferred energy traveled as a particle because it was in a quantized amount.  But, the particulate, mono-directional photon is not required by Planck's nor Einstein's nor Bohr's analysis nor mathematics and it is rendered impossible by the nature of the medium flow from electric charge.

 Summary

 

 These results are obtained starting from an established fact, the speed limitation of light,  c, then developing in simple, logical steps, the unavoidable consequence that the "particle-like effect in one single direction" photon simply cannot be and therefore is not.

 

 But, that result leaves the remainder of the related physics, the quantization of energy exchanges between charges and electro-magnetic propagation being in the energy amount that W = h∙f, unaffected.

 

 Furthermore, the demise of the photon raises serious concerns about the validity of the overall Quantum Mechanics theory / hypothesis, which came into being from and because of the contentions of Planck, Einstein and Bohr.
