Dialog With a Columbine

I love you for that ...

... of course

I should love you anyway,

     but I did not even

          notice,

               or care,

                    or think.

Until you showed me,

      you taught me

What life is,

          and how,

          and why.

     Co-beings,

we share the transience of life –

                 A brief flowering

                       in beauty

             before relinquishing that

                        and life.

                 A brief flowering

                       in beauty

             before relinquishing that

                        and life.

Yet we each still remain, you and I,

in the beauty of what we have been,

in the beauty of what we have done,

which are the significance of our being.
